The Honourable Judges of the High Court of Anambra State have decided not to sit today, Monday 2nd March, 2020 due to the most unexpected and sudden death of the Hon. Justice D.O.C. Amaechina, who until his untimely demise on Saturday, 29th February, 2020, was Number 3 in the judicial hierarchy of the State.
It will be recalled that the Anambra State Judiciary has been hit with the sudden death of her judicial officers in recent times, having lost three serving Chief Magistrates and now one Judge, all within two months.
As at date, two of the Magistrates are yet to be buried before death struck again on Saturday taking the Hon. Justice Amaechina.
Lawyers and other stakeholders in the justice system have been worried because of the low remuneration and absence of medical care for Hon. Judges and Magistrates in Anambra State, who undoubtedly carry the heaviest workload of cases in Nigeria.

The statistics show that a Judge in Anambra State has an average of 600 cases in his Court.
The Magistrates are among the poorest paid Magistrates in our country.
As we commiserate with the judiciary over these unfortunate deaths, it will be appreciated if the State Government looks into the welfare of the judiciary.
