Awka, Anambra State capital, went agog, at the weekend for an Ilustrious son of Anambra State, Dr. Godwin Maduka, when thousands of members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and card carrying members of the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA came visiting the billionaire cum politician.
The event which attracted a tumultuous crowd, took place at Dr. Maduka's Foundation headquaters, close to Aroma, Awka.
This led to traffic jam at the busy Enugu/Onitsha Expressway.
The meeting is in continuation of series of consultations embarked on by Dr.Maduka, which kicked off at his home town- Umuchukwu, where he had thanked the delegates for their outstanding support during the PDP guber primary election.
The PDP had conducted it's governorship primary last week which was trailed by complaints by over 3,000 delegates who were disenfranchised by the party leadership.
The delegates had condemned the party's action, and have continued to pledge their loyalty and support to Dr. Maduka.
Valentine Ozigbo, who emerged governorship candidate of the party by the PDP "Super delegates", has a hearculean task to glue the party together, as support from party members continue to tilt towards Dr. Maduka.
Speaking to the gathering, Maduka described the PDP guber primary held on June 26, as a Kangaroo exercise, criticizing the manner the election was held.
He said the primary denied the delegates, both statutory and ad hoc, the opportunity to elect a governorship candidate of their choice.
He said he will not be deterred by the actions of the PDP leadership, as he remains comitted to give Anambra State good governance. He assured that he will continue to pursue his governorship ambition.
He stated that he was motivated to join the governorship race because he intended to alleviate the poverty ravaging the people of the State and bring rapid development.
Political observers say the PDP in Anambra State is in deep mess ahead of the November 6, 2021 guber election.
The outcome of the guber primary election has further polarized the party, as Maduka seems to be emerging the de facto leader of the party considering the massive number of party stakeholders, members and delegates who besiege him and have vowed to support his ambition on any other political platform.
