Gov. Bello said this on Thursday in Minna, during a courtesy visit by Dr Liman Ibrahim, Controller General of the Federal Fire Service to the government
He commended CG for the donation of two new modern fire fighting trucks and water tankers to the fire service in the state.
The Governor further said that the efforts and hard work of the CG in restructuring the FFS can not be over emphasized.
“ This is a result of his dedication and hard work to service as he has boosted the morale of officers and men".
“The Officers and Men of the Fire Service are now noticeable as value has been add to the service,” he said.
Governor Abubakar Bello of Niger State also used the opportunity to advocate for the establishment of fire stations in petroleum depots across the country.
He said that it was important for Fire Stations to be located in areas such as petroleum depots to promote fast response time in case of fire outbreaks.
He explained that the response time and proximity of firefighters determined how effectively fire could be curbed in emergency situations.
“These areas need proper attention because of the level of risks associated with fuel tankers,” he said.
Gov. Bello frowned at the negligence of some state leaders to acknowledge and improve the conditions of the fire services in their states.
According to him, at resumption of office, Niger State Fire Service was in a deteriorated condition but has presently acquired more firefighting trucks and office renovation.
“We are at the process of building more stations in some identified volatile areas,” he said.
Earlier in his remarks, Dr Ibrahim told the Governor that he was in the state with top management staff for a retreat on the review of the fire safety code and other laws guiding the service.
According to the CG, " the service had existed without some vital documents and I feel it’s important we make the national fire policy available before I retire"
“I have visited five countries to check their fire safety code just to serve as a guide to the establishment of Nigeria’s safety code" he said.
“To avoid buildings collapse, there are measures that can be put in place to protect properties and investments hence the need for national fire safety code,” the CG said.
The Controller General thanked the Governor for his enormous support that has made his job easy.
