The Director General of Industrial Training Fund, ITF, Sir Joseph Ari has been conferred with the Best Performing DG On Youth Empowerment Award by the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, FRCN Abuja Operations Chapel.
This is due to his contributions to the development of skill acquisition programmes towards empowering and making millions of Nigerian youths self reliant.
The Award was presented to Sir Joseph Ari in Abuja during the 2023 Annual Press Week of NUJ, FRCN. Abuja Chapel with the theme ” National Socio-economic Development: Roles Of Media Professionals”
Receiving the Award, Sir Joseph Ari dedicated it to Nigerians, members of staff of ITF and President Muhammadu Buhari for his support towards ensuring that ITF is at the forefront of advocating the need for Nigerians most especially the youth to be equipped with skills.
Sir Joseph Ari who was represented by the Manager, ITF Corporate Office, Abuja, Alhaji Aminu Mohammed said under the renewed vision of the ITF, the focus of the Fund is centered around a national apprenticeship training system.
According to him, with the rising unemployment in the country, ITF is constantly reviewing its programmes to enable more Nigerians to embrace skills acquisition.
“By 2050, we are meant to be the third most populous nation in the world with about 400 or 500 million people and that is just in few years and imagine what it would be like if you have an unskilled population , the issue of restiveness, prostitution, armed robbery and so on will be a daily occurrence” He said
The Director General stated that ITF had in the last 6 years trained over 500,000 Nigerians with the requisite skills to key into the Federal Government’s job and wealth creation policy direction under the National Development Plan
Earlier, the Chairperson, NUJ, FRCN Abuja Chapel, Comrade Shakirat Alabi who commended the Director General of ITF, Sir Joseph Ari for his laudable achievements on youths empowerment expressed the hope that the Award would further encourage him to do more.
Highlights of the Press Week were paper presentation by some Reportable Media Scholars.and presentation of Awards to other notable Nigerians both in the public and private sector who have contributed their quota to the progress of the country and upliftment of the society as well as humanity.
