English Premier League side Nottingham Forest are planning for next season with the strengthening of their attack on top of their priority list after struggling for goals in the English Premier League last season.
Forest escaped relegation in their debut season following promotion to the English Premier League with Nigeria international forward Taiwo Awoniyi finishing as their top scorer with 10 goals despite missing eight games.
Brennan Johnson came second on eight goals. In total the team scored just 38 league balls last season and it is seen as a prime reason why they finished 16th. To avoid a repeat especially with doubts over the future of Johnson, they have started moves towards adding more firepower to their attack.
OwnGoalNigeria.com can exclusively reveal that talks have accelerated in recent days with Nigeria international striker Kelechi Iheanacho, who ended last season with five goal and five assists for relegated Leicester City.
He is seen as someone who will compliment Awoniyi in the team’s attack with their relationship dating back to when they were teammates for the U17 team of Nigeria in 2013.
Preliminary talks were held last week with Iheanacho who scored the goal that sealed Nigeria’s spot at next year Africa Cup of Nations reportedly keen on the move. More talks will be held this week with expectations that personal terms will be agreed ahead of a formal bid to Leicester City.
