The 2023 interschool quiz competition organised by African Scholars Care Initiative has finally come to an end in Abuja, the nation's capital with Sui-generis Schools trouncing 14 others to grab the N500,000 star prize.


The competition organised in commemoration of this year's International Day of the African Child is in line with the core focus of African Scholars Care Initiative, a non-governmental organisation dedicated to promoting education in Africa.


Speaking at the grand finale of the competition at Merit House Maitama Abuja, the founder, African Scholars Care Initiative, Joy Osomiamhe-O said the programme is borne out of the need to raise awareness on the need to raise awareness on the need to improve the standard of education across the continent.

"The government alone cannot do this, we need the private sector, the churches, NGOs, civil society organisations even business entities.


"People should come out to give counterpart funding for education so that we can encourage the African child, and make them take a place in the global space", she stated.


She further stated that the initiative aims to achieving the United Nations' SDG goal 4 of helping education in Africa. 


In his remarks, the Director General of National Population Commission, Ojogun Osifo stated that Nigeria and Africa have a critical role to play in the development of education beyond the continent.

He thanked African Scholars Care Initiative for taking up the challenge in driving a robust awareness to take the education of Nigerian children more seriously.


The founder of iTeach Africa Initiative, Ebimoboare Elezieanya noted that it is time to go back to the strategy and develop a better way to support the academic institutions in producing quality students.


The pupils of the participating schools also expressed gratitude for the opportunity of being part of the competition.


First and second runners up smiled home with the sum of N300,000 and 200,000 respectively while the rest got consolation prizes.
