24 persons who were abducted by suspected bandits in Maru LGA of Zamfara state, have been rescued by troops of Operation Hadarin Daji.

The operation by the troops followed an intelligence report on a bandits’ hideout at Kabugu Lamba forest.

According to reports, the troops engaged the terrorists in a gun duel which forced them to flee, leaving their captives behind.

Four bandits were said to have been killed during the encounter with the troops while others fled with gunshot wounds.

The rescued abductees included 14 men, one infant and nine women, who have been handed over to the appropriate authorities to reunite with their families.

The development comes weeks after nine children abducted by bandits from the Goron-Namaye community, in Maradun LGA of the Zamfara state were rescued by the police.

The children were abducted while on their way to fetch firewood from the bush.
