Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule said he has been working in harmony with the immediate past National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Abdullahi Adamu and former senator representing Nasarawa South senatorial district, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura.
The governor explained that the state and its people as well as the entire North Central would have benefited more if Adamu had remained the national chairman of the APC, adding for the period the former senator representing Nasarawa West reigned as the party’s leader, the zone was reckoned with as a power block of repute.
He said the state also become the proverbial beautiful bride courted by all and that Nasarawa was the favoured child of the presidency.
The clarification came amid recent media report that Governor Sule supplanted and undermined Adamu and Al-Makura’s interests by withering down their power and influence politically.
Platinumpost reports that Al-Makura, also a former governor of Nasarawa State was favoured to make the recent ministerial nominees lists released by President Bola Tinubu from the state.
The ministerial position was seen as a compensation for the former governor for losing his seat at the upper chamber of the National Assembly and for the preference of Adamu over him during the contest for the national chairmanship of the APC.
The odds were said to have favoured him then being the key figure from the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) block in the merger which birthed the APC.
However, the shocker came when a relatively unknown Iman Suleiman’s emerged as the sole nominee from the state.
While the state was yet to overcome the shock wave over the lists, a reputable national newspaper (not Platinum Post) came up with a report blaming the misfortune on Governor Sule, even as it alleged that the governor was behind the highwire politics within the National Working Committee of the party, which “forced” Adamu to step down as its chairman.
But Sule through his Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs, Mr Peter Ahemba, told newsmen in Lafia, that the allegations were frivolous and untrue.
Mr Ahemba said both leaders were not just statesmen in their own right but his benefactors with whom he forged his own political fortune, adding that he can only pay them back by supporting their interests rather than undermining same.
“It is public knowledge that Governor Abdullahi Sule, in the believe that respect and support are reciprocal, has remained consistent in his support to his predecessor, Senator Umaru Tanko Al-Makura in all his political endeavours, including the 2023 Senatorial election which he re-contested.
“Recently President Bola Ahmed Tinubu requested all governors of the APC-controlled states to submit three names each for him to consider one out of the names and nominate and appoint as minister and Senator Al-Makura’s name featured prominently on the list submitted by Governor Sule to the President for Nasarawa State.
“The appointment of ministers is solely the prerogative of Mr. President to consider and appoint whoever he wants from each state as a member of the Federal Executive Council, and Governor Sule’s powers to determine who is appointed a Minister is limited.
“It is mischievous for anyone to insinuate and or accused Governor Sule of being responsible for the internal disagreement among members of the National Working Committee of the party that led to the voluntary resignation of Senator Abdullahi Adamu. The unfortunate development has nothing absolutely to do with the Governor,” he explained.
