The member representing Biu, Shani, Kwaya-Kusar and Bayo federal constituency of Borno state, Mukhtar Betara has donated more food items to his constituents.

The food items consist of 12, 000 bags of rice and semolina were distributed to the vulnerable members of the area.

A statement by Betara’s spokesperson, Aishatu Ibrahim on Saturday, said the gesture was a continuation of an effort targeted at ameliorating the suffering of the people of the area.

“Having realized that the vulnerable constituents are too many, Honourable Betara magnanimously ordered for additional foodstuffs comprising 8, 100 bags of rice and 6, 700 bags of semolina for distribution to the needy in his constituency.

“This brings the total to 14, 400 bags of 25kg rice and 13, 000 bags of semolina which were all supplied through the 42 wards spread across the constituency for onward transmission to polling units for easy identification of true beneficiaries.

“In addition, the Honourable member said each beneficiary should be given the sum of N2, 000 as he or she collects the foodstuffs,” Ibrahim said.

Recall that the distribution of the foodstuffs started on Thursday throughout the constituency with the strict warning from the member that only the vulnerable should be considered.

The statement said while distribution of food items by the member has been an annual exercise, the current gesture was aimed at addressing food crisis affecting communities in the area.
