Atiku Abubakar, the candidate for the People’s Democratic Party, has declared he will challenge the decision of the Presidential Election Petitions Court that upheld President Bola Tinubu’s victory on Wednesday.
Atiku failed to prove his petition against President Tinubu and the Independent National Electoral Commission, according to the Presidential Election Petition Court in Abuja.
The PEPC unanimously decided to reject Atiku’s plea due to its lack of merit.
Chris Uche SAN, Atiku’s lead attorney, said in a news conference that his client has given him orders to appeal to the Supreme Court.
“The judgment has been delivered but we have not received justice. Luckily, the law has given us leverage to go on appeal to the Supreme Court.
“We have instructions from our clients to go to the Supreme Court,” he said, adding “the struggle continues.”
He disagreed with the PEPC’s position on electronic transmission of results.
Therefore, the Presidential victory Petitions Court’s decision upholding President Bola Tinubu’s victory would be appealed at the Supreme Court, according to Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi.
Obi’s accusation that his votes were suppressed by the Independent National Electoral Commission in favor of Tinubu was also rejected by the presidential tribunal sitting in Abuja.
Obi’s lead attorney, Livy Uzoukwu SAN, told reporters that he would be appealing the verdict.
“We have firm instructions from our client to appeal the decision,” he said.
He claimed that if Nigerians are not careful, electoral jurisprudence will disappear.
“History will vindicate the just,” he added.
