Currently, Senate President Godswill Akpabio is in Luanda, the capital of Angola, for the 147th assembly of the interparliamentary union (IPU).

Akpabio commanded a delegation consisting of four senators and five representatives. The occasion began on October 21 and will conclude on October 27.

Anietie Ekong, Akpabio’s media assistant, cited the number three citizen as saying that Nigeria’s absence from the assembly would have been detrimental.

“It would have been a disservice to Africa if Nigeria did not have a strong delegation at the IPU. Our presence here is to ensure that our bilateral relationship is strengthened,” Ekong quoted Akpabio as saying.

“With our presence we can forge a strong bilateral parliamentary relationship for the interest of our nations.”

The environment and sustainable development goals (SDGs) are some of the issues the assembly will discuss.
