The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has given reasons for its operatives to conduct a stop and search exercise on the popular Admiralty Way in Lekki, Lagos State.

The agency, while responding to an enquiry by comedian Bright Okpocha aka Basketmouth on Saturday, November 4, revealed that the stop-and-search exercise was to “protect residents from the activities of drug dealers and disrupt supply chain of illicit substances.”

Basketmouth had taken to his X handle to ask if the antigraft agency now conducts such exercises after spotting some officials in Lekki.

‘’Are you people aware of the stop and search going on currently on Admiralty Way in LEKKI by members of your force? #ndlea_nigeria.”

Responding, NDLEA via its X handle wrote;

“Thanks #basket_mouth. The men are on authorized duty based on intelligence, their presence there is not a regular occurrence. It’s part of efforts to protect residents from the activities of drug dealers and disrupt supply chain of illicit substances. The cooperation of all is key.”
