Victor Osimhen has been named the Italian Footballers’ Association (AIC) Player of the Year for the Serie A season 2022/23.

On Monday evening, the 24-year-old Nigerian won the Gran Gala del Calcio in Milan.

AIC, the organization that protects and assists professional footballers in Serie A, B, Lega Pro, and women’s football, organized the award.

Osimhen was also named to the top 11 in Serie A for the 2022/23 season.

Mike Maignan, Theo Hernandez, Giovanni Di Lorenzo, Alessandro Bastoni, Kim Min Jae, and Stanislav Lobotska are also on the team of the year.

Hakan Calhanoglu, Nicolo Barella, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, and Rafa Leao round out the lineup.

Osimhen led Napoli to their first Serie A title in 33 years last season.

The Super Eagles striker scored 25 league goals to become the league’s leading scorer, becoming the first African footballer to do so.

At the 2023 Ballon d’Or presentation, he was chosen the world’s eighth best male footballer. Nigerians outperformed all other Africans on the list.

Osimhen was also the first Nigerian to be named to the Ballon d’Or top ten.

He was also named to the CAF footballer of the year shortlist for 2023.
