The Women leader of Ohaneze Women wing and The Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Women Mobilization to Delta State Governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, Chief Mrs Rita Daniels Chukwuji has congratulated her principal the governor on his victory at the Supreme Court, saying it is an affirmation of the mandate freely given to him by the people of the state.
She said it is a victory not only for the Governor, but the entire people of Delta State.
The apex court had on Friday upheld the election of Oborevwori as the duly elected governor of the State, dismissing an appeal filed by Mr. Ovie Omo-Agege who was the candidate of APC in the March 18, 2023 governorship election.
“The appellants (Mr Omo-Agege and the APC) have not been able to discharge the burden of proof placed on them. The appeal lacks merit and it is hereby dismissed,” a five-member panel of the court led by John Okoro said while dismissing the appeal.
Reacting to the judgement of the Supreme Court, Chief Mrs Rita Daniels Chukwuji expressed happiness that all the distraction caused by the prolonged litigation will now be laid to rest.
She said, "I want to congratulate the governor, His Excellency Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori on his resounding victory at the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
"It is a clear testimony that the will of the people of Delta has come to stay, which was handed to him willingly at the polls.
"With this, the needless distractions caused by the prolonged court processes, all the way from tribunal to the Supreme Court will now be laid to a deserving rest.
"It also avails our amiable Governor the opportunity to focus more in delivering the democratic dividends, a laudable project he has since started on a giant note", she said.
Mr Oborevwori scored 360,234 votes in the March 18 governorship election to beat his closest opponent, Mr Omo-Agege, who scored 240,229.
