A non-governmental organisation with cardinal focus on promoting the welfare of Persons With Disabilities (PWDs), Queen Irene Onwuka Peace Foundation (QIOPF) has signed a historic partnership agreement with the office of Senior Special Assistant to the President on Special Needs.
The partnership agreement is aimed at increasing efforts to empower people with special needs and persons with disabilities in the country.
"On 5th July 2024, QIOP Foundation signed a historic groundbreaking partnership with the SSA to the President on Special Needs and Equal Opportunity.
"This collaboration marks a significant step forward in our mission to empower Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) across Nigeria.
"Together, we launched the "Disabilities Capacity Building and Empowerment Programme", founder of the foundation, Queen Irene Onwuka said on a social media post.
She expressed gratitude to the SSA to the President on Special Needs and Equal Opportunity, Hon. Mohammed Abba Isa for his readiness to change the narrative in the PWD community with this empowerment deal.
The foundation said under this partnership, there will be an increased investment in skills, not just handout for Persons With Disabilities (PWDs).
"The Disabilities for Capacity Building and Empowerment Program goes beyond a traditional charity approach. We believe in equipping PWDs with the tools they need to thrive, not simply offering temporary relief.
"These skills will empower PWDs through our vocational training to build sustainable careers, achieve financial independence, and contribute meaningfully to the Nigerian economy.
"The program extends beyond skills training. We will also work towards Breaking Down Barriers. We will advocate for increased accessibility and address societal prejudices that hinder PWD participation, Amplifying Voices, We will create platforms for PWDs to be heard and contribute to policy decisions that directly impact their lives", the foundation said.
Last year, Queen Onwuka won award of recognition as African Iconic Young Humanitarian at the African Iconic Women Recognition Awards (AIWRA) 2023.
She is one of the beautiful and elegant women that have consistently been recognised for their selfless and humanitarian activities in touching the lives of less privileged members of the society.
