In a significant move, the Federal Government, FG, has appointed and decorated 15 new Deputy Comptrollers General (DCGs) across the four paramilitary services under the Ministry of Interior.

This elevation is part of a larger promotion exercise that saw 79 senior officers, including Assistant Comptrollers Generals (ACGs) and Comptrollers, rise to new ranks.

At the event, Minister of Interior Mr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo emphasized the fairness of the promotions, ensuring that merit was the primary criterion. The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) led with seven new DCGs, followed by the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS) with four, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) with three, and the Federal Fire Service (FFS) with one.

Minister Tunji-Ojo acknowledged past delays in promotions, noting that under President Bola Tinubu’s administration, the process had become regular and merit-based. He criticized the stagnation some officers experienced due to systemic issues and assured that promotions would no longer be influenced by nepotism.

“Our goal is to see innovation and excellence in our paramilitary agencies. The era of favoritism is over. We aim to ensure that everyone, regardless of their background, has a fair chance to advance based on their performance and dedication,” Tunji-Ojo declared.

He further revealed that promotions for 2024 were nearly finalized and would be implemented by the end of September. The Minister encouraged all officers to excel in their roles, promising that promotions would be based solely on merit.

The event also saw Ja’afaru Ahmed, Secretary of the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire, and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB), express satisfaction with the timely completion of promotions, highlighting the administration’s commitment to regular and timely promotions.

Among the newly promoted DCGs, the NCoS officers are Abolade Benson, Mamman Hamisu, Ado Sale, and Olanrewaju Amora. The NSCDC includes Pedro Ideba, Mohammed Haruna, and Ayuba Philip. The NIS promotions went to E. Anietum, Ada Umanah, M. C Dike, George Didel, Umar Turkur, Afolayan Ayeni, and Baffa Nagode. The FFS’s lone promotion was DCG Olumode.

The Interior Minister charged the newly promoted officers to enhance their efforts in supporting the president’s Renewed Hope agenda within their respective agencies. He stressed that future promotions would be merit-based, reinforcing the administration’s commitment to fairness and excellence in service delivery.
