A fire broke out at the Lagos State Government Staff Quarters located on Odunsanmi Street, off WEMPCO Road in Ogba, Lagos on August 30, 2024, prompting panic in the area.

According to Dr. Oluwafemi Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the blaze affected a portion of a three-story building within the complex.

LASEMA received emergency calls via the 767 and 112 lines around 2:39 a.m., prompting an immediate response from their command center in Alausa.

The fire was reported to have started in a children’s bedroom of Flat 5, Block 21, a section of the building housing 16 two-bedroom apartments.

Preliminary investigations by LASEMA’s team indicated that the fire was caused by an electrical surge. Thanks to the swift and coordinated efforts of LASEMA, the Nigeria Police Force, and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, the fire was brought under control. Fortunately, there were no injuries or fatalities reported. However, significant damage was inflicted on the children’s room, leading to substantial property loss.

In response to the incident, LASEMA has advised residents on the safe use of electrical appliances to prevent future occurrences.
