The Katsina State Police have arrested Halilu Yusuf, 21, on charges of kidnapping a six-year-old boy.
According to police spokesperson ASP Abubakar Aliyu, Yusuf was apprehended on August 17 based on credible intelligence.
Yusuf, a resident of Gezawa near Shinkafi village, is accused of luring the victim, who is the son of his mentor, from Kofar-Sauri quarters. He allegedly demanded a N2 million ransom from the boy’s father.
After the kidnapping, Yusuf kept the boy in his room overnight before relocating him, unaware that police operatives were tracking him.
Aliyu stated that Yusuf made an anonymous phone call to inform the father about the abduction. Acting swiftly, the police mobilized a team led by the DPO GRA, Katsina, who successfully traced Yusuf, rescued the boy unharmed, and arrested the suspect.
Yusuf has confessed to the crime during interrogation. He will be charged in court upon completion of the investigation.
