On Wednesday, the Chief Magistrate of the Iyaganku Family Court in Ibadan, Oyo State, Mrs. Olabisi Ogunkanmi, ordered the remand of Kareem Mojeed, a tenant accused of defiling his landlord’s seven-year-old daughter.

The court directed that Mojeed be held at the Agodi Correctional Centre while awaiting legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

The defendant, whose residential address was not disclosed, faced a charge of defilement brought against him by the police. Magistrate Ogunkanmi did not take Mojeed’s plea and instructed that the case file be duplicated and forwarded to the DPP for further legal guidance.

Inspector Gbemisola Adedeji, the prosecutor, informed the court that the alleged offence occurred on July 21, 2024, at around 5:00 p.m. in the Ebedi area of Ibadan.

According to Adedeji, Mojeed lured the young girl into his room and committed the heinous act. The offence contravenes Section 34 of the Oyo State Child’s Rights Law, 2006.

The case has been adjourned until October 14, 2024, pending the DPP’s legal advice.
