Bauchi State has donated the sum of N250 million victims of floods in Borno State as millions of displaced people face humanitarian crisis.

The state is submerged in flood as many areas in the local government areas of Maiduguri and Jere are worst hit.

The donation was made during a sympathy visit to the Borno State Government House in Maiduguri on Monday, Governor Bala Mohammed, who met his counterpart, Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno.

Mohammed revealed he had sent the Bauchi State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to assist the Borno Humanitarian Response Squad in helping the impacted areas.

“I saw you managing the crisis on the day it happened, and I thought you were handling a similar situation as before. But as the situation unfolded, it became clear that this was a disaster of unprecedented proportions,” Governor Mohammed said

“It (the flood) has caused immense destruction of lives and properties, and continues to inflict pain on the people. We were confused about how to intervene, but decided to take a modest approach by providing cooked food for 10,000 people, twice a day, to help save lives.”

Mohammed assured Zulum that his team would stay in Borno till things got better.

“I commend your courage and resilience in the face of this adversity,” Mohammed said.

“You have always demonstrated exceptional leadership, using your knowledge and expertise to conquer challenges. Thank you for your steadfastness.”

Zulum expressed appreciation for the donation saying it was timely

He expressed his gratitude to the Bauchi State Government for supporting Borno State in its hour of need.

“We are deeply touched by your gesture, and I assure you that the N250 million donation will be judiciously utilized to alleviate our people’s suffering,” Zulum states

“The support from your government is a testament to the bond between our states and commitment to humanity”.
