A fire outbreak has erupted at the Oko Baba plank market located in the Ebute Metta area of Lagos State.

Emergency responders, including officials from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Services and the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), are currently on the scene.

The incident was initially reported by a social media user, Adedeji Olalekan, known on X as #Stylomedia, who shared the news on Sunday. Olalekan revealed that the blaze has spread to the shanties within the market.

He posted, “Okobaba Street is on fire now, all the shanties are burning.”

LASEMA’s spokesperson, Nosa Okunbor, also confirmed the incident in a brief statement via WhatsApp.

He noted that emergency teams, including the LASEMA Response Team, LRU Fire Unit, and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, are actively engaged in search and rescue efforts at the affected site near Ibadan Street, Ebute Metta.
