Lieutenant General Yusuf Buratai, the former Chief of Army Staff, has been appointed as the Chairman of Fire Prevention Week and Expo, as well as the Nigerian Humanitarian Action’s (NIHA) international flagship programme in the United States.

This appointment comes as part of broader efforts to combat the growing number of fire outbreaks across Nigeria.

Dr. Kletsaint Akor, Chairman of NIHA and the Proponents Council of Nigeria Fire Prevention Week, hailed Buratai’s new role as a “game-changer” in the fight against fire incidents.

Known for his distinguished military career, Buratai has pledged to rally support from various stakeholders to reduce fire disasters in the country.

The collaboration between NIHA and the Federal Fire Service aims to strengthen fire safety measures, enhance response strategies, and increase public awareness about fire prevention.

Despite significant budget allocations, fire outbreaks remain a persistent threat to public property and the Nigerian economy.

NIHA expressed optimism that under Buratai’s leadership, there will be a more effective approach to addressing fire hazards and improving overall fire safety in Nigeria.
