A political pressure group, Igbo Union (aka Nzuko Ndigbo), is set to honour the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, “for his tireless efforts in passing a bill that gave birth to the South East Development Commission (SEDC).”
Speaking newsmen Wednesday in Abuja, President of the group, Prince Elias Odoemena, said Hon. Ben Kalu, a High Chief in Bende, Abia State, passed the bill because of his undying love for the Southeast and the drive to develop the region.
Odoemena said Igbo people felt it would be good to honour Kalu and also tell him what his kinsmen want from him.
He recalled that former Ohanaeze President, late Engr (Dr.) Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, visited Kalu and encouraged him on the SEDC and its importance to the people of the zone.
Odoemena also said that the only currency used in paying back love is love, and therefore used the opportunity to thank President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for assenting to the bill that created SEDC, and equally urge him to send to the National Assembly, a supplementary budget that will enable the SEDC to start functioning immediately.
“The Deputy Speaker has shown that the success of every representative is based on bringing quality projects and developing to the areas you cover. Hon Kalu has made us to have faith of qualitative representation in Abuja, which he has proudly represented.
“We are honouring the Deputy Speaker because vision and development- driven leadership in the House, a representation that concise with the spirit of self development which the Igbos are known for.
“We are therefore looking forward to the smooth take off of the South East Development Commission (SEDC),” Odoemena said.
