A 20-year-old man, identified as Paul Jeremiah, has been apprehended by the Kogi State Police for allegedly killing a 100-level student from the Federal University, Lokoja.

The victim, a 19-year-old girl named Damilola, was reportedly abducted by Jeremiah and later killed.

The Kogi State Police Command, through its spokesperson, SP William Aya, confirmed the arrest.

According to Aya, Jeremiah was taken into custody on Wednesday in Lokoja, and an investigation is currently underway.

Reports suggest that Jeremiah, a Kaduna State indigene, had allegedly kidnapped Damilola in the Felele-Lokoja area, taking her to an unfinished building.

He reportedly demanded a ransom from her family, initially requesting N400,000, which the family paid in hopes of securing her release.

Unsatisfied with the payment, Jeremiah allegedly contacted the family again, this time demanding an additional N10 million.

However, the police managed to track and arrest the suspect while he was attempting to collect the second ransom.

During interrogation, Jeremiah reportedly confessed to the crime and led authorities to a shallow grave where he had buried Damilola’s remains.

In a video confession, Jeremiah stated that he had killed the student after she saw his face during the abduction. He claimed to have acted alone, saying, “I strangled her because she tried to escape after seeing me.”

The victim was first reported missing on September 4, 2024, and her family’s efforts to secure her freedom tragically ended with the discovery of her body.
