Nigerian activist and #RevolutionNow convener, Omoyele Sowore, has been released after being detained at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS).

His detention was reportedly linked to a watchlist issued by the Department of State Services (DSS).

According to information gathered on Sunday, the Immigration Service held Sowore upon his arrival in Nigeria. His passport was seized, and officials reached out to the DSS, awaiting further instructions. After a period of uncertainty, the activist was released, and his documents were returned to him.

Sowore confirmed the development, stating, “I have just been released. My passport and everything have been returned to me.”

The incident had prompted supporters from the Take It Back Movement and other activists to gather at the airport in anticipation of Sowore’s arrival and subsequent release.

Sowore had been staying with his family in the United States before his return to Nigeria. His flight departed from Washington Dulles International Airport and touched down in Lagos around 9:43 WAT.
