The Kogi State Government has initiated actions toward the implementation of the new minimum wage set at N70,000.
As part of this process, the Head of the State Civil Service, Elijah Evinemi, has issued official communications to various unions, requesting nominations for members to serve on the committee that will oversee the wage adjustments.
In a letter addressed to the Trade Union Congress (TUC) chairman, titled “Request for submission of names of committee members in respect of the new minimum wage,” it was confirmed on Thursday in Lokoja that the state’s Executive Governor, Ahmed Ododo, has approved the formation of a committee dedicated to the new minimum wage.
The letter reads, “His Excellency, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, the Executive Governor of Kogi State, has approved the constitution of the committee on minimum wage. In light of this, you are requested to submit two nominees to represent your union in the committee. Please ensure that the names are submitted to the office of the Head of Service no later than Monday, September 16, 2024.”
Sources have indicated that similar requests were also sent to the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Nigeria Union of Pensioners, urging them to submit their respective nominees by the same deadline.
It is worth noting that the Federal Government, in collaboration with labour unions and the organised private sector, reached an agreement in May to set the national minimum wage at N70,000.
