The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has dispatched more than 100 trucks to the Dangote Refinery, gearing up for the planned fuel loading set to commence on Sunday.
The state-owned company revealed this in a brief statement accompanied by several photos, showing numerous trucks positioned at the refinery’s premises in Lagos State.
The NNPC stated, “In anticipation of the Dangote Refinery’s scheduled fuel loading on Sunday, September 15, 2024, NNPC Ltd. has been preparing trucks at the refinery’s loading facility in Ibeju-Lekki. As of Saturday afternoon, more than 100 trucks have been mobilized, with additional vehicles on the way.”
Earlier, the Nigerian government announced that the Dangote Refinery would start supplying petrol from September 15, following agreements on pricing and supply conditions.
Zacch Adedeji, Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service and a member of the Presidential Committee on the Sale of Crude Oil and Refined Products, disclosed this development on Friday. He indicated that the NNPCL would act as the sole off-taker of petrol from the Dangote Refinery, while other marketers would source the product through the national oil company.
In addition, the NNPCL plans to begin supplying 385,000 barrels of crude oil daily to the refinery starting from October 1, 2024, with payments to be made in Naira.
This move represents a significant milestone for the refinery, which is expected to greatly enhance Nigeria’s fuel production capabilities. The Dangote Refinery, owned by renowned business magnate Aliko Dangote, is viewed as a transformative force for Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.
With a capacity to process 650,000 barrels of oil per day, the refinery aims not only to satisfy Nigeria’s fuel requirements but also to potentially export surplus products.
