The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) has appointed Aliyu Zubairu, the Technical Adviser of El-Kanemi Warriors, as the new Head Coach of the National U-20 Boys team, the Flying Eagles.

This decision, based on the recommendation of the NFF’s Technical and Development Sub-Committee, marks a significant step in Zubairu’s coaching career.

Zubairu’s appointment follows his recent success with El-Kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri, where he led the team to victory in the President Federation Cup, defeating Abia Warriors FC in Lagos in June.

Although the Warriors were recently eliminated from the CAF Confederation Cup after a 2-1 aggregate loss to Benin Republic’s Daje FC in the preliminary round, they kicked off their 2024/2025 NPFL season with a solid 0-0 draw against defending champions Rangers.

Zubairu replaces Ladan Bosso, one of the longest-serving coaches of the Flying Eagles, who has now taken up the role of Technical Adviser for Bayelsa United.

As the new Head Coach, Zubairu’s immediate challenge will be to assemble and prepare a team for the upcoming WAFU B U20 Championship, scheduled for October/November in Togo. The tournament will determine the zone’s representative for next year’s Africa U20 Cup of Nations.

Zubairu’s leadership is expected to bring fresh energy and strategic direction to the Flying Eagles as they aim to excel in the regional tournament and beyond.
