Traditional rulers in the Niger Delta have pledged their unwavering backing for President Bola Tinubu’s administration, particularly regarding initiatives designed to enhance peace, security, and development in the region, as well as good governance across the country.
During a stakeholders’ meeting hosted by the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP) in Warri, Delta State, they also endorsed Dr. Dennis Otuaro as the Administrator of the PAP, calling his appointment well-deserved.
The meeting, themed “Working Together for the Sustainable Peace, Security, Stability, and Development in the Niger Delta,” highlighted the essential role of traditional leaders in fostering stability and peace in the area.
According to a statement issued by Mr. Igoniko Oduma, the PAP Administrator’s Special Assistant on Media, the royal fathers, including HRM King Justice F. F. Tabai of Tuomo kingdom and HRM King Peremobowei Erebulu of Kabowei kingdom, expressed optimism that the region would greatly benefit from the President’s commitment.
They stated, “We need to appreciate the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria for finding our son worthy of that office and putting a square peg in a square hole.”
They further assured, “Having listened to the plans he has for us, we will do everything necessary to ensure that Mr. President succeeds.” The monarchs emphasized their commitment to supporting the President’s developmental agenda for the Niger Delta.
They commended Otuaro for demonstrating the capacity to lead the PAP, highlighting his educational and vocational initiatives’ potential positive impact on communities in the region. The rulers encouraged him to enhance educational opportunities and continue his inclusive policies.
In response, Otuaro acknowledged the pivotal role of traditional rulers in peacebuilding and expressed gratitude for their support for the President’s policies. He reiterated the administration’s dedication to completing key infrastructure projects, including the East-West Road and the Coastal Road.
Otuaro also outlined plans to support 500 beneficiaries through the PAP scholarship scheme and empower 1,000 youths and women across various trades.
He affirmed, “All I am here to do is to serve our people. That is my commitment.”
