The Governor of Ebonyi State, Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru has disclosed the readiness of his administration to prioritise in education and development of human capital in the state.
The governor who stated this on Saturday during the 4th Biennial Homecoming Ivory Convention of the Presbyterian College Old Boys Association, POSA, insisted that the war against illiteracy and ignorance must be won by his administration.
Governor Nwifuru tasked the old boys and girls of the famous school to join him in his campaign for moral rectitude and discipline among students.
The National president of POSA, Dr Cyril Onyemaechi Aninwike in his welcome speech expressed gratitude to Governor Nwifuru for his stance on education.
He reeled the successes recorded by his administration to include full perimeter fencing, institution of awards for both teachers and student to encourage hard work and diligence.
“We build cyber hall for the students, we fenced the Abakaliki High School, pay bursaries and instituted awards and we are determined to bring back reading culture amongst our students.”
He commended Governor Nwifuru for defying clashing state engagements to be part of the program.
“I want to sincerely thank the Governor for being here today”.
This is the first time a governor is attending our program here live. We thank him. Governor Nwifuru we are grateful.
Speaking, the Chairman of Board of Trustees of POSA, General Abel Obi Umahi, rtd, described the Governor as the most humble man he has ever seen, commending him for his Charter of Needs Agenda which strictly pursue the needs of the people”.
In her Keynote address, the Vice Chancellor of Federal University of Technology, FUTO, Professor Nnenna Oti thanked the organisers for putting up the program that unites people and suggests approaches that will enhance education and human capital development.
The event featured presentation of awards to the governor and his wife and other distinguished eminent personalities.
