Assistant Superintendent of Police Idris Lawal was tragically killed by a hit-and-run driver in Ekiti State.

The fatal incident occurred at a checkpoint in Ayemi Garage along Iworoko Road in Ado-Ekiti on Monday, September 10.

Lawal, who was attached to the Ekiti State Command, was rushed to the Ekiti State Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH) for urgent medical care but was unfortunately pronounced dead by doctors.

Reports indicate that the accident took place around 11 pm when the driver of a white, unmarked Mercedes Benz approached a stop-and-search operation. The vehicle’s driver failed to stop and fled the scene after the collision.

The Ekiti State Police Command has issued an internal memo regarding the incident, and the officer’s body has been deposited in the mortuary for an autopsy.

The command is actively working to locate and apprehend the driver responsible for this tragic event.
