Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has clarified the reasons behind his recent meeting with former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, and General Aliyu Gusau at the Minna residence of ex-Military President, Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB).
The closed-door meeting, which lasted for about an hour, took place after Obasanjo arrived at Minna International Airport around 4:30 pm.
In a statement issued on Sunday night by Obasanjo’s Media Aide, Kehinde Akinyemi, it was explained that Obasanjo’s visit to Minna was to felicitate with IBB on his birthday.
Obasanjo noted that he had been unable to visit the former military leader last month due to his tight schedule abroad.
The statement further revealed that Obasanjo had also made a similar visit earlier on Sunday to the Esama of Benin, Chief Gabriel Igbinedion, in Edo State, to celebrate his 90th birthday.
It added that, “After the celebration in Benin, the former President proceeded to Minna in Niger State to visit President Ibrahim Babangida, who celebrated his 83rd birthday on August 17. President Obasanjo noted the contributions of President Babangida and celebrated his good health.
“In his remarks, Obasanjo said he could not do this earlier as he was outside the country. He prayed for continued good health for the President,” the statement said.
