Shina Sanyaolu, a highly respected figure in the Yoruba film industry and a key Nollywood filmmaker, has sadly passed away.
The news of his death was confirmed by Bolaji Amusan, president of the Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN), in an emotional Instagram post on Wednesday.
Sanyaolu, known for his work as a producer and director, made significant contributions to the Yoruba genre of Nollywood.
While the exact cause and date of his passing have not been revealed, his death has left the Nigerian film industry and his colleagues in mourning.
Veteran actor Jide Kosoko expressed deep sadness over Sanyaolu’s death, describing him as a remarkable man who touched many lives.
Kosoko shared a touching tribute on Instagram, recalling Sanyaolu’s generosity and support, especially to fellow industry members during their travels to the UK in the 1980s.
Kosoko wrote, “Shina Sanyaolu was just not a remarkable man, he was a beacon of kindness and warmth… His love for arts and his unwavering support for our industry were unmatched. Shina was always there for us, offering a helping hand and opening doors where there seemed to be none.”
TAMPAN UK president, Doyin Amodu, also paid tribute, reflecting on Sanyaolu’s impact on the industry and his unending support for his colleagues.
Sanyaolu contributed to numerous productions, including well-known movies like The Honourable, Two Wives, and Omo Olosan.
His legacy and the lives he touched throughout his career will be fondly remembered by the Nigerian film community.
