In a heartbreaking incident, over 40 farmers lost their lives in a boat accident in Gummi Local Government Area of Zamfara State, as confirmed by the presidency.

The tragedy occurred on Saturday morning when the farmers were en route to their fields.

Reports indicate that the boat was carrying 53 farmers at the time of the accident, with only 12 survivors being rescued. Abubakar Muhammad, a resident of Gummi town, witnessed the capsizing and described the scene near the river.

In response to this tragedy, President Bola Tinubu expressed his condolences to the people and government of Zamfara State.

A statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, outlined Tinubu’s commitment to supporting the victims of this incident and recent flooding in the area.

The President has instructed emergency agencies to conduct a thorough assessment of both the boat accident and the flooding to address the underlying causes.

He also directed response agencies to collaborate with the Zamfara State Government to assist those affected by these disasters.

This tragic event highlights the ongoing challenges faced by farmers in the region and the need for improved safety measures and support systems.
