Former Governor of Rivers State, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award in Public Service at the 6th Leadership Excellence Awards (LEEX) in Abuja on November 2. Amaechi emerged as the winner in a 13-day nationwide online poll monitored by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), garnering an impressive 147,884 votes.

Amaechi defeated other notable nominees, including Oby Ezekwesili (73,982 votes), Goodwill Akpabio (47,269 votes), and Nasir el-Rufai (39,462 votes), to emerge as the winner of the prestigious award.

Amaechi's outstanding performance in public service has earned him this recognition. Before becoming governor, he served as Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, demonstrating his leadership skills and commitment to public service.
In his remarks to Igbere TV, Amaechi expressed gratitude to Nigerians for remembering his contributions, stating that his desire to "make heaven" motivates him to avoid engaging in anti-people activities. He emphasized his commitment to accountability, citing his priest's advice that "God in heaven will hold you accountable" for one's actions.

The former Minister of Transportation also shared his concerns about the high cost of living, expecting youths to protest and demand change. "People should be angry because you cannot see a group of people stealing your money without doing anything," Amaechi said, expressing frustration with the citizens' inaction.

The 6th LEEX Awards, endorsed by the African Union and African Film Institute, will be chaired by Senator T.A. Orji, former Governor of Abia State, with a keynote address by Chief Olusegun Osoba, former Governor of Ogun State. The ceremony will take place at the NAF Conference Hall in Abuja.
Amaechi has had a distinguished career in politics, serving as Speaker, Rivers State House of Assembly 1999-2007, Governor of Rivers State (2007-2015) and Minister of Transportation (2015-2022)

Born on May 27, 1965, in Ikwerre, Rivers State, Amaechi holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Studies and Literature from the University of Port Harcourt.

The LEEX Awards, organized by IgbereTV, aims to recognize and celebrate excellence in leadership and public service and raise funds for charity.
