Nigerians are once again facing nationwide blackouts following the collapse of the national power grid—marking the third occurrence within a week.
The repeated grid failures have heightened frustrations among citizens, as businesses, households, and essential services struggle to cope with the country’s erratic electricity supply.

The latest outage occurred early Saturday morning, with reports of total blackouts emerging from several states across the federation.

This breakdown follows two earlier disruptions within the same week, further exposing the vulnerabilities of Nigeria’s power infrastructure.

According to data retrieved from the Nigerian System Operator’s portal (niggrid.org), power generation plummeted to zero megawatts (MW) at 8:16 a.m. today.

At the time of this report, all 22 generation companies (GenCos) were confirmed to be offline, compounding the sector’s ongoing challenges.

This incident marks the eighth significant grid failure in 2024, underscoring the persistent difficulties facing the nation’s electricity sector.
