BREAKING : Senate begins screening of new ministerial nominees

The Nigerian Senate has begun the screening process for seven ministerial nominees recently submitted by President Bola Tinubu.

Among the nominees are Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda, proposed as Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, and Muhammadu Dingyadi, slated for the Ministry of Labour and Employment. Others include Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu for Minister of State, Foreign Affairs, and Dr. Jumoke Oduwole for Minister of Industry, Trade, and Development.

Also nominated are Idi Muktar Maiha for Minister of Livestock Development, Rt. Hon. Yusuf Ata for Minister of State, Housing, and Dr. Suwaiba Said Ahmad for Minister of State, Education.

During Wednesday’s plenary, the Senate suspended its standing rules at 12:57 pm to allow the Special Adviser to the President on Senate Matters, Basheer Lado, to present the nominees. This motion was moved by Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio had read the letter from President Tinubu on Thursday, announcing the nominations as part of a cabinet reshuffle.

The reshuffle follows the removal of five ministers, including Uju-Ken Ohanenye (Women Affairs), Lola Ade-John (Tourism), Prof. Tahir Mamman (Education), Abdullahi Muhammad Gwarzo (State for Housing and Urban Development), and Dr. Jamila Bio Ibrahim (Youth Development).
