Samson Dauda, a Nigerian-born bodybuilder representing the United Kingdom, has achieved a monumental victory by being crowned the 2024 Mr. Olympia.
This prestigious title is awarded annually to the winner of the open division at the Olympia Fitness & Performance Weekend, one of the most coveted bodybuilding competitions in the world, sanctioned by the IFBB Professional League.
Dauda’s win at the 60th Mr. Olympia, held at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Nevada, is particularly historic, as he became the first bodybuilder of Nigerian descent to claim the title.
His victory on Saturday saw him outshine top competitors, including Hadi Choopan, who finished as the runner-up, and last year’s champion, Derek Lunsford, who secured third place.
This remarkable win comes just a year after Dauda’s impressive third-place finish in the 2023 Mr. Olympia.
His rise to the top in 2024 not only earned him the Mr. Olympia title but also the coveted People’s Champion award, further solidifying his status in the bodybuilding world.
Along with his title, Dauda received a championship belt and a trophy, symbolizing his triumph over the sport’s elite.
Born on March 11, 1992, in Lagos, Nigeria, Dauda moved to the UK during his teenage years, initially pursuing rugby before an unexpected turn led him to bodybuilding in 2014.
His rugby teammates, along with gym owner Chris Jones, saw potential in him and encouraged him to try bodybuilding, a decision that would eventually transform Dauda into a global champion.
Samson Dauda’s journey from Lagos to the Mr. Olympia stage is an inspiring testament to hard work, dedication, and the pursuit of excellence.
His victory not only marks a significant personal achievement but also shines a spotlight on the growing influence of Nigerian athletes in international sports.
