In a move to enhance the welfare of Jigawa State’s workforce, Governor Umar Namadi has approved a new minimum wage of ₦70,000 for civil servants.
The announcement was made at the Government House in Dutse, following Governor Namadi’s review of the minimum wage committee’s recommendations.
Governor Namadi underscored the state’s commitment to fair compensation, highlighting the importance of valuing public servants for their dedication and contribution.
“After receiving the report by the committee on minimum wage, we have resolved to pay our workers ₦70,000 as the new minimum wage,” he said.
He further highlighted the government’s commitment to the well-being of its civil servants, noting that the decision was made after careful consideration of the economic realities and the financial capacity of the state.
“We understand the rising cost of living, and we believe this increment will go a long way in alleviating the financial burden on our workers,” the governor added.
The announcement has been well received by civil servants in the state who had been eagerly awaiting news on the wage increase.
Governor Namadi assured the public that the new wage structure would be implemented as soon as possible and all efforts would be made to ensure a smooth transition.
The committee on minimum wage, which was tasked with reviewing the salary structure in the state, commended the governor for his swift action. According to sources, the committee’s report took into account various factors, including inflation and the need to retain a motivated workforce.
