The University of Calabar has suspended Dr. Joseph Idung, a lecturer in the Department of Science Laboratory Technology, for allegedly refusing to return funds collected from students for their induction into the Nigerian Institute of Science Laboratory Technology (NISLT), News360 Nigeria gathered
In a suspension letter signed by the university’s Registrar, Gabriel Egbe, the administration expressed dismay at Dr. Idung’s refusal to refund the money, adding that his actions have prompted an investigation.

This comes just days after Dr. Joseph Akpan, Acting Head of the Department of Pharmacology, was suspended and removed from office over the alteration of examination scores.

"The Vice Chancellor, Professor Florence Obi, has directed that Dr. Idung hand over all university property in his possession to the Head of Department."

"He is also instructed to stay off campus, except when responding to invitations from the Anti-Corruption and Transparency Monitoring Unit (ACTU), which is handling the investigation."

News360 Nigeria also reached out to some affected students of the institution who claimed they were mandated to pay afee amounting to about N100,000 each by the then HOD of the department, Mr Idung, for induction into the Nigerian Institute of Science Laboratory Technology (NISLT).

The aggrieved students who seeked to remain anonymous revealed further that uptill now, the final year students are to yet to write any professional exam or given a refund.

The university has also placed Dr. Idung on half salary for the duration of the suspension.
