Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has introduced a revised minimum wage of N72,000 for civil servants across the state, which will take effect in November 2024.
The announcement came through a statement issued on Thursday by Malam Ibraheem Musa, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor.
The pay increase underscores the governor’s dedication to prioritizing the welfare of workers and aligns with his commitment to their rights and improved living standards.
“The decision is in line with the advancement of the interests of workers and improvement in the living conditions of the poor, vulnerable, and underserved in Kaduna State,” the statement read.
Additionally, the governor is set to initiate a free transportation scheme to benefit state workers, deploying 100 CNG buses for this purpose.
Governor Sani stated that the new transportation initiative, with 100 CNG buses, is intended to support workers by easing their commuting expenses and boosting productivity.
These buses will serve to transport civil servants to and from work, offering them relief from transportation costs. “A Joint Management Committee consisting of representatives of organized labour (NLC and TUC) and the State Government will be set up to manage the Free Transportation Scheme for civil servants,” he explained.
Governor Sani reiterated his administration’s commitment to civil servant welfare, emphasizing efforts to foster improved productivity.
“Kaduna State Government will continue to fashion and implement policies and measures to bring succour to the people. We are committed to transforming the lives of the less privileged. With the sustained support of our citizens, we shall make Kaduna State a Model for Social Welfare Interventions,” the governor said.
