A former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Olaide Akinremi who died recently in office has made the list of awardees in the just conclude Democracy Heroes Award Africa, an event organized in commemoration of the country's 64th Independence Anniversary.

He represented Ibadan North Federal constituency and was the chairman House Committee on Science Research. 

He was honoured along with Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal, his Ebonyi and Kaduna counterparts, Francis Nwifuru and Uba Sani the governor of Kaduna state. 

Others recognised include, Governor of Niger State, Umar Mohammed Bago, member representing Ikeja federal constituency of Lagos State in the House, Rt. Hon. James Faleke and member representing Jos South/East Federal constituency, Hon. Dachung Bagos. 

The award recognizes political leaders for their contributions in deepening the culture of democracy in the country. It recognizes entrepreneurs, business and entertainers whose contributions have helped in entrenching stability through job creation, youth empowerment and poverty alleviation measures. 

This is the first posthumous award the late lawmaker has received since his demise. The award was received on his behalf by his personal assistant, Hon. Isaac Lale Obele. 

Other members of the National Assembly and aides of the former lawmaker also joined in the stage to receive the award.

He is a known supporters of the entertainment sector and has supported several projects, including the Democracy Heroes Award.

The Project Director FDN, Olufunsho Ajagbonna aka Fajag said the significant impact the late House of Representatives during his lifetime. 

A one minute silence was observed in his honour.
