Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Ododo, has officially approved a new minimum wage of ₦72,500 for civil servants in the state, with immediate effect.
This significant move comes as part of the governor’s commitment to improving the welfare of Kogi’s workforce.
In addition to the wage increase, Governor Ododo announced the suspension of taxes on the newly approved sum for one year, providing further relief to civil servants.
The decision was revealed on Monday after the governor signed the agreement on the new minimum wage.
This development is expected to boost morale among civil servants and contribute to improving the economic conditions of workers across Kogi State.
“The new minimum wage of seventy-two thousand five hundred naira should take immediate effect to enable it to cope with the current situation in the country,” the governor said.
The Chairman of the Minimum Wage Committee, Mr Elijah Evenemi, stated that the agreement on the minimum wage is not a victory for any political party but for the good of the masses.
He expressed appreciation to the governor for giving the committee a free hand to operate and achieve a common goal.
President Bola Tinubu had, on July 18, 2024, approved a new minimum wage of N70,000 for Nigerian workers and pledged to review the national minimum wage law every three years.
This comes after the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress met with the President at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Thursday.
