Tunisia’s President Kais Saied has secured re-election with a commanding 90.69 percent of the vote, as confirmed by the country’s electoral authority, ISIE.
The announcement, made on national television, underscores Saied’s strong position in the political landscape, despite facing minimal opposition.
Saied, 66, easily outpaced his closest rivals, Ayachi Zemmal, who received 7.3 percent of the vote, and Zouhair Maghzaoui, who garnered only 1.9 percent.
However, despite this landslide victory, voter turnout was notably low, with just 28.8 percent of eligible voters participating—the lowest turnout since Tunisia’s revolution in 2011.
The low turnout has raised questions about political engagement and the state of democracy in Tunisia, even as Saied continues to dominate the country’s political scene.
