In a tragic incident that has shocked residents of Kashin Dila Fulani village, Malam-Madori Local Government Area in Jigawa State, two brothers have been arrested for allegedly killing a female neighbour over accusations of witchcraft.

According to police reports, the brothers attacked the victim, inflicting fatal injuries with sticks and knives. The violent assault tragically led to her untimely death.

Information indicates that the suspects had long suspected and accused the woman, identified as Hauwa Yusai, who lived next to the elder of the two brothers, of practicing witchcraft.

Confirming the incident in a telephone interview, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Jigawa State Police Command, DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, stated that the suspects are currently in custody and will soon face prosecution.

DSP Lawan explained that superstition and misinformation appear to have driven the brothers’ actions. He recounted, “On October 16, 2024, at 1:30 a.m., the Malam-Madori Division received a distress call regarding an assault on Hauwa Yusai, 55, of Kashin Dila Fulani settlement.”

“The victim was allegedly attacked by two brothers – who accused her of witchcraft,” he added.

The police spokesperson described how the suspects assaulted Yusai with sticks and stabbed her with a knife, causing critical injuries. Upon receiving the distress call, officers responded promptly, rushing her to Hadejia General Hospital, where a medical doctor pronounced her dead.

The suspects were taken into custody and transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Dutse for further investigation. DSP Lawan noted that, during questioning, the suspects confessed to the crime and assured that they would face the full extent of the law.

He emphasized the command’s commitment to delivering justice in this tragic case, assuring that a thorough investigation would be conducted to ensure accountability.

“The police are working to prevent similar incidents in the state,” he stated.

The Jigawa State Police Command also urged citizens to report any suspicious activities and cautioned against acts of vigilantism.
