At least two security operatives have been killed following an encounter with bandits in Jibia Local Government Area (LGA) of Katsina State.
The incident, which occurred on Thursday, November 7, involved coordinated attacks across Ka’ida, Unguwar One Boy, and Danmarke quarters in Jibia Township. During the assault, five others were injured by gunfire.
Sources confirmed that among the deceased was a member of the Katsina State Community Watch Corps and a vigilante.
The attacks, which targeted three separate quarters in Jibia Township, were reportedly executed by a group of armed assailants.
In a statement released on Friday, ASP Abubakar Sadiq, the Public Relations Officer of the Katsina State Police Command, confirmed the attack and stated that the wounded victims were promptly transported to a nearby hospital for medical care.
“The coordinated response from the police, military, the state community watch corps, and vigilantes was swift. This led to a fierce gun battle, which lasted for over an hour. The joint security team, led by the DPO of Jibia, successfully repelled the attackers, forcing them to retreat,” Sadiq explained.
He added, “The superior firepower and strategic positioning of our forces ultimately led to the rescue of 16 victims who had been trapped by the bandits.”
Sadiq assured that further updates would be provided as the investigation progresses.
The police spokesperson emphasized that security forces are actively collaborating with other agencies to apprehend those responsible for the deadly assault
