Former Nigerian senator and businessman, Ben Murray-Bruce, has disclosed how he was allegedly defrauded of $3.5 million by his South African business associate during a transaction to acquire a cinema complex in Kenya.

Speaking at the 4th Peace Anyiam Osigwe (PAO) Nigeria Digital Content Regulation Conference on Thursday, Murray-Bruce recounted how the South African partner registered the purchased business in his own name after the funds were transferred.

“I was called to buy a cinema complex in Kenya for $3.5 million. I transferred the money and my South African partner registered it in his name. That was how I lost that huge investment,” he revealed.

He also mentioned ongoing litigation involving his studio in Los Angeles and a prominent Hollywood actor.

Murray-Bruce, the founder of Silverbird Group, further highlighted his plans to rejuvenate the cinema industry in Nigeria through movie production.

“The entertainment industry is a very successful one. In all the things I have done, I have never made one move about movie making but now, I will,” he said. “I am working on a script, and I know we will get it right. We will deal with fundamental issues.”

The former lawmaker expressed optimism about his upcoming project, noting that the issues at the core of his new script will resonate with audiences.

This incident comes as Murray-Bruce continues to expand his footprint in Nigeria’s entertainment sector while addressing challenges with international business ventures.
