Banjo Osibemekun, a 61-year-old resident of William Street, Swanmore, UK, has admitted to charges of possessing a false Nigerian passport and a counterfeit British driving licence.
The offences spanned from October 29, 2009, to July 18, 2024, and were addressed in Isle of Wight Crown Court on Monday, November 18.
Osibemekun’s defence counsel, Oscar Vincent, requested a pre-sentence report, citing factors that could influence the court’s decision. The presiding judge, William Ashcroft, granted the request and adjourned the case until February 6, 2025, when Osibemekun will receive his sentence.
Until then, Osibemekun has been released on unconditional bail. This case highlights the ongoing challenges of combating document fraud and its implications for legal systems in both Nigeria and the UK.
