The Nigerian Air Force (NAF), as part of its Operation FANSAN YAMMA, conducted a high-stakes night assault targeting terrorist hideouts across Zamfara and Kebbi States, resulting in the elimination of numerous insurgents.
In a statement released by Air Commodore Olusola Akinboyewa, Director of Public Relations and Information for the NAF, the force’s air operations, branded ‘Operation FARAUTAR MUJIYA,’ began on Friday and featured a series of powerful, stand-alone air interdiction strikes aimed at rooting out terror cells in the Northwest.
Akinboyewa highlighted that the offensive followed verified intelligence pinpointing terrorist gatherings in areas controlled by prominent bandit leaders responsible for long-standing violence in the region.
“On Nov. 8, using advanced surveillance and precision targeting, NAF assets executed a surprise aerial assault on multiple camps, including the strategic Sangeko location in Zamfara, near the Kebbi border, and Ado Aleiro’s heavily fortified enclave around Asola Hill in Tsafe Local Government Area.”
The strikes reportedly destroyed a key weapons stockpile belonging to infamous bandit leader Ado Aleiro, alongside neutralizing numerous fighters, thereby delivering a critical blow to the operational strength of these criminal factions.
“Intelligence reports and Battle Damage Assessments confirmed the overwhelming impact of the strikes, which resonated throughout the night,” he said.
Additionally, Akinboyewa noted that the chaos from the strikes enabled several captives to escape, with many finding their way to safety in Kebbi State. Some of these survivors later recounted their harrowing escapes.
He emphasized that the operation not only dealt a significant setback to the terrorists but also brought hope to local residents who had suffered under the threat of banditry for too long.
“These operations highlight the NAF’s increasing agility and resilience, reaffirming the Armed Forces of Nigeria’s relentless dedication to restoring peace and security across the nation,” he added.
