The Akwa Ibom State Government has declared Friday, November 29, 2024, a work-free day to honour the late First Lady, Pastor (Mrs.) Patience Umo Eno.

This announcement was made in a statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah, on Wednesday, November 27.

The public holiday is intended to allow residents of the state to pay their last respects during her obsequies, which will take place in her hometown, Ikot Ekpene Udo, Nsit Ubium Local Government Area.

Pastor (Mrs.) Patience Umo Eno passed away on September 26, 2024, at the age of 57, following a brief illness.

During her time as First Lady, she was widely celebrated for her humanitarian efforts through her pet project, the Golden Initiative For All (GIFA), which focused on addressing societal challenges and uplifting the less privileged.

In a statement, Prince Uwah said, “Further to the final home-going programme of our departed First Lady, Her Excellency, Pastor (Mrs) Patience Umo Eno, the Akwa Ibom State Government in consultation with the bereaved family has declared Friday, 29th November 2024 Work-Free Day in honour of our dear mother.”

He added, “This is to enable Akwaibomites and other residents to pay their last respects to our mother at her obsequies in Ikot Ekpene Udo, Nsit Ubium Local Government Area on that day.”
